The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) put it bluntly in its 2023 annual report: If global emissions of climate-damaging greenhouse gases are not curbed to a greater extent, temperatures are expected to rise by 2.5 to 2.9 degrees compared to pre-industrial levels. This development also requires further efforts for Switzerland in order to achieve the envisaged net-zero target by 2050.
